Fondant & Gumpaste Creations
Fondant is a rollable icing that works well in the most creative cakes. Unlike buttercream, fondant is a plyable and stretchy texture (kind of like play-dough). It can be rolled super thin and smoothed flawlessly over a cake. It comes in a variety of flavors: from basic vanilla and chocolate to fun flavors like cotton candy and white chocolate. I can make it from scratch, but do purchase it sometimes from a cake supplier. Fondant makes exceptional figurines, flowers, lettering, etc. I make marshmallow fondant and purchase primarily vanilla/buttercream flavored fondant. If you request a certain flavor, I will need extra time to order it. Sometimes certain flavors are in certain colors only (for example, mocha is brown, cherry is red, strawberry is pink, etc.), so we may need to speak about colors before it is ordered.
Although some people think fondant and gumpaste are the same - they are not! Gumpaste dries hard and is not exactly edible. It works great for any decorations that need to stand upright on a cake (like the handles on the purse cake below) or that you want to use as a keepsake. It also takes several days to an entire week to dry. Gumpaste decorations are breakable if dropped or mistreated, but can be saved forever if stored properly. A gumpaste cross for a baby's dedication, gumpaste booties from the baby shower, gumpaste daisies from your wedding cake - can be kept as a memory.
I made this Wedding Cake topper out of gumpaste maple leaves.
